Saudi group to start construction next year on Teesside plant to produce sustainable aviation fuel from household and commercial waste
Saudi industrial conglomerate Alfanar Group will invest £1bn ($1.3bn) in a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production project on Teesside in northeast England, UK prime minister Boris Johnson has confirmed. The project, called Lighthouse Green Fuels, will convert household and commercial waste into SAF and naphtha using a waste-to-liquids process based on gasification and Fischer-Tropsch technology. Feed work is underway, with construction expected to start in 2023. The project was awarded £2.4mn late last year via the UK government’s ‘Green Fuels, Green Skies’ competition, which supports early-stage development of SAF projects in the UK.
