Orsted aims for wind turbine circular economy

Danish developer enters partnerships to decarbonise steel production and offshore vessel support

Danish wind energy company Orsted has announced two partnerships that could reduce emissions across the development and operation of windfarms. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with German steel producer Salzgitter to supply offshore wind power and renewable hydrogen for production of low-carbon steel. The partners plan to use this steel, as well as recycled scrap from decommissioned offshore wind turbines, to produce new components for Orsted’s projects.
