Major energy and industrial companies in Japan have stepped up their efforts to accelerate the development of CCS as the government sets out a roadmap to support the sector’s growth to 2050. Nippon Steel, the country’s largest steelmaker, and conglomerate Mitsubishi signed a MoU with ExxonMobil’s Asia Pacific unit to jointly study CCS in Japan and the wider Asia Pacific region. The three companies will conduct research on capturing emissions from Nippon’s domestic steelworks and evaluate the development of associated infrastructure.
