Freeport LNG has signed a letter of intent with US independent oil and gas firm Talos Energy and UK-based carbon-capture specialist Storegga to develop a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project adjacent to its natural gas pre-treatment facilities near Freeport, southwest of Houston. The project would utilise a Freeport-owned geological sequestration site less than half a mile from point of capture, and could start permanent storage of CO2 by late 2024, pending the execution of definitive agreements and regulatory approval.
