France lines up 25GW renewables expansion
Government plans new tranche of competitive tenders to bolster wind and solar sectors
France has set out plans to launch a series of seven tenders for onshore wind and solar power projects aimed at developing 25GW of renewable generation capacity at a cost of €25bn ($29.6bn). The government has also set in motion the legal process required to launch a tender for offshore wind farms off the coast of Normandy, according to Prime Minister Jean Castex. France held its first tender for 1GW of offshore capacity off Normandy earlier this year. Six developers including Shell, TotalEnergies and Spanish utility Iberdrola were selected to advance to the final stages before project awards next year, with commissioning of the wind farms expected in 2028.
