Galkynysh goes fourth

Turkmenistan is moving ahead with a modest expansion of the giant Galkynysh field to sustain gas deliveries abroad, but persistent delays to other key pipeline projects and geopolitical risks continue to constrain its export ambitions

Turkmenistan is preparing to begin the fourth phase of the massive Galkynysh gas field, with the government clearing a subsidiary of China’s CNPC to receive an EPC contract for the project. But while the extra supply could support exports via established routes, the country’s efforts to establish new corridors for deliveries abroad still face challenges. According to Turkmen state media, President Serdar Berdymukhamedov authorised national gas concern Turkmengas to sign the EPC with CNPC Amu Darya Petroleum in mid-March, covering the drilling of new wells and construction of processing facilities, adding 10bcm/yr of production. Galkynysh is one of the biggest gas fields in the world. Togethe
