Africa’s most populous nation puts cap-and-trade and voluntary markets at the centre of its emerging strategy to achieve net zero by 2060
Nigeria is stepping up its commitment to sustainability and the domestic carbon economy after finalising its Carbon Market Activation Plan (CMAP), which aims to unlock between $736m and $2.5b through carbon market growth by 2030. The next stage of operationalising CMAP will be a dedicated carbon market regulatory framework, expected to be introduced in the second half of 2025.
